The sides
The most important parts of the cabinet are the sides which define form and size. The cabinet sides are, like the rest of the cab, made from 18mm birch multiplex. The picture shows the sheets right after they were delivered.
To make sure the two cabinet sides have exactly the same size and shape, i don't cut them with a jig saw but use router. This has the additional advantage that the routed edges will be exactly right-angled. As a guidance for the router i use a template i made from 1/2" pine plywood which was a leftover from another project.
I transfer all measures from the drawing to the plywood. The guide bushing has a diameter which is 1/2" bigger than the routing bit, so i make the template 1/4" smaller in all directions than the original size.
First i cut all straight edges using a table saw. After the straight cuts are done, i use a jig saw for the curves.
